For gay Christians looking to blend their faith and sexuality, there are a lot of helpful resources...
Want to find your people? Check these out:
Q Christian Fellowship: A progressive welcoming group for LGBTQ+ Christians and friends. They do a big conference every year, have smaller groups, and tons of online groups, articles, and further resources.
Revoice: They're mission is to support gay, lesbian, bi, and other same-sex attracted Christians (and their loved ones) so everyone in the Church can live in unity while sticking to the historical view of marriage and sexuality.
GayChurch.org: This site has a searchable list of inclusive churches and denominations.
Need someone to talk to? Other therapists are available too:
The Christian Closet: They offer online therapy, coaching, and spiritual direction with licensed pros who are LGBTQ-affirming Christians. They're great at helping you bring your faith and sexuality together, and heal from religious hurt.
IITAP: The international institute for trauma and addiction professionals is where I got my certification for sex addiction. I have met many of these therapists who have proven to be deeply insightful when it comes to understanding what forms us as sexual beings. They have a comprehensive directory of trained therapists.
Helpful coaches, consultants, and organizations for ministry leaders:
Posture Shift: Their vision is to create a new church history where Christian communities and homes are the safest places for LGBT+ family and friends.
Center For Faith: They help conservative church leaders develop a strong biblical ethic for marriage, sexuality, and gender, and help their churches create safe, compassionate spaces for LGBT+ people.
Wholly Ourselves: Josh Proctor offers spiritual direction, LGBT+ inclusion consulting, education, podcasts, and pastoral support.
Clarity Focus Heart: Steven Cooper offers executive leadership coaching to faith leaders in both the church and the business world. He is an exceptionally gifted bridge builder between conservative Christians and the LGBTQ+ community.
Equip: Equip is a premier consulting and training solution for churches aspiring to be places where LGBT+ people can thrive.
Looking for a good read? Here are some book ideas:
Single, Gay, Christian by Gregory Coles: A hopeful memoir about one man's journey to reconcile his faith with his same-sex attraction in a conservative Christian setting.
Oriented to Faith by Tim Otto: Tim shares his own story as a gay Christian and encourages everyone to approach sexuality and faith with compassion.
Tenderness: A Gay Christian’s Guide to Unlearning Rejection and Experiencing God’s Extravagant Love by Eve Tushnet: Eve, an openly lesbian woman who converted to Catholicism, explores how gay Catholics can embrace their faith and sexuality through friendship, service, and community.
Still Time to Care by Greg Johnson: Looks at what we can learn from the Church's past attempts to "cure" homosexuality.
Better Ways to Read the Bible by Zach W. Lambert: This book aims to transform how we read the Bible from something that can cause harm to a tool for healing.
Building A Bridge by Fr. James Martin: This book challenges both the Catholic Church and the LGBT+ community to find common ground.
